How Much Does It Cost to Hire a Bartender for a Party?

By Ellie Dummett, Well Served BYOB Bartending LLC ·

Whether you call it hiring, booking, or "renting" a bartender, you're paying for the same thing: a trained professional who sets up the bar, serves your guests responsibly, checks IDs, and cleans up afterward. At a BYOB event that's the whole bill — you buy the alcohol yourself at retail prices, so there's no per-drink markup and no bar minimum.

Three Example Party Budgets

  • 40-guest birthday party, 4 hours: 1 bartender × 4 hours × $65 = about $260 in labor (or the $395 Essential package for a fully handled bar).
  • 80-guest backyard party, 4 hours: 2 bartenders × 4 hours × $65 = about $520.
  • 150-guest company holiday party, 3 hours: 3 bartenders plus a barback = about $690 before any holiday surcharge.

Corporate Events

Company events usually run on the hourly rate, since receptions and happy hours tend to be shorter. Most office buildings and event spaces require a certificate of insurance before vendors can load in — we send one within 24 hours. See our corporate event bartending page for details.

Why BYOB Keeps the Cost Down

With a labor-only service you shop for the bottles, keep the leftovers, and pay the bartender only for their time. It's also the legal way to do it in Florida: selling or providing alcohol at a private event requires a state license, so a labor-only bartender keeps your event clean. You supply the alcohol — we handle the bar.
