How Many Bartenders Do I Need for 100 Guests?
By Ellie Dummett, Well Served BYOB Bartending LLC ·
The industry rule of thumb is one bartender for every 50 to 75 guests with a full bar. At 100 guests that lands at two — enough to keep the cocktail-hour line short, which is when nearly everyone wants a drink at once.
Staffing Chart by Guest Count
| Guests | Bartenders | Barback |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 50 | 1 | — |
| 51–100 | 2 | — |
| 101–125 | 2 | recommended |
| 126–150 | 2 | 1 |
| 151–200 | 3 | 1 |
When One Bartender Is Enough
- Beer and wine only, with no mixed drinks
- A short event (two hours or less) with staggered arrivals
- A crowd that drinks lightly, such as a daytime or family-heavy event
When to Add More Help
- Signature cocktails that take longer to build
- A champagne toast poured and passed on cue
- Outdoor Florida summer events, where ice runs go faster
- A bar far from the kitchen or ice storage
What 100 Guests Drink
Plan about one drink per guest per hour. A 5-hour, 100-guest event comes to around 500 drinks — roughly 50 bottles of wine, 13 twelve-packs of beer, and 7 bottles of liquor, plus 150 pounds of ice (200 outdoors in summer). Our 100-guest alcohol guide breaks down wine, beer, and liquor in detail.
What It Costs
Two bartenders for five hours at $65 per bartender hour is about $650 in labor. Wedding packages start at $395, $895, and $1,295. You supply the alcohol — we handle the bar.
Staffing and quantities are estimates; your quote confirms them. Well Served BYOB Bartending LLC provides bartending labor only. Clients purchase and supply all alcoholic beverages.
